People Powered Tourism - study tour in Vienna

New Vision for Community-Driven Tourism

The People Powered Tourism (PPT) project was launched in April 2025 with the support of the Interreg Danube Programme. Its goal is to place local communities, stories, and experiences back at the heart of tourism. The initiative focuses especially on lesser-known urban districts and rural areas, emphasizing sustainability and the management of overtourism. The project’s first professional benchmark study, showcasing good practices in community-driven tourism, has already been completed and is available in the project’s library HIER.

The work is carried out by 14 partners from 10 countries, including tourism boards, universities, municipalities, and civil society organizations. The project develops tools and guidelines such as the PPT Toolbox, Guidebook, and Danube Visitor Economy Platform to support the transformation of local tourism.

A major milestone for the partnership was the study visit in Vienna, which took place from September 30 to October 2, 2025.

The People Powered Tourism project aims to make tourism in the Danube Region a driving force for community identity, sustainable development, and long-term socio-economic impact. Below is the photo gallery of the two-day study visit.

People Powered Tourism: új lendület a közösségvezérelt turizmusban

A People Powered Tourism (PPT) projekt az Interreg Duna Program támogatásával indult 2025 áprilisában: célja, hogy a turizmus középpontjába ismét a helyi közösségek, történetek és élmények kerüljenek. A kezdeményezés különösen a kevésbé látogatott városi negyedekre és vidéki térségekre fókuszál, hangsúlyt fektetve a fenntarthatóságra és az overtourism kezelésére. Már elkészült a projekt első szakmai benchmark tanulmánya, amely a közösségvezérelt turizmus jó gyakorlatait mutatja be és elérhető a projekt könyvtárában ITT.

A munkát 14 partner 10 országból végzi, köztük turisztikai hivatalok, egyetemek, önkormányzatok és civil szervezetek. A projekt olyan eszközöket és útmutatókat fejleszt, mint a PPT Toolbox, a Guidebook vagy a Danube Visitor Economy Platform, amelyek támogatják a helyi turizmus átalakítását.

A partnerség fontos állomása a bécsi szakmai tanulmányút volt, amelyre 2025. szeptember 30. és október 2. között kerül sor. A People Powered Tourism célja, hogy a turizmust a Duna-régióban a közösségi identitás, a fenntartható fejlődés és a hosszú távú társadalmi-gazdasági hatások motorjává tegye.
